He began tuba lessons and theory in the Philharmonic and Corfu Conservatory, with his brother Stefanos Rarakos (tuba), Nikos Zervopoulos (tuba) at Philippos Nakas Conservatory and D. Dapergola and A. Kaziani as teachers. He has attended lessons and seminars with D. Wick, R. Bobo, J. Watson, I. Roos, V. Zarzo, G. Milliere, L. Gairdens, F. Mills, W. Hilgers, and H. Jan-Renes. He is the first Greek tuba player who used all four different tuba tones. He has performed more than 1800 concerts throughout Greece and abroad.
