A talented ballad crooner who sounded like a cross between Tennessee Ernie Ford and Frankie Laine, Virgil Holmes had a distinctive baritone that was well suited for the material he recorded, which was mainly Western themed.. It was rumored that an early version of The Four Seasons served as back-up singers on his 1961 single "Walkin' Alone" b/w "Ghost Train," released on the Atlantic label. Presented here might well be his earliest release - the single "Rock Wall Jail" b/w "My Downfall," originally released in 1959 on the Wells Records label. This rare single is presented here newly remastered for this exclusive release and finally made available in the digital domain.
